New work from from the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, show how metabolic substrates regulate effects of Wnt/β-catenin signaling in #cardiomyocytes, specifically affecting regulation of #Connexin43

sciencedirect.com/science/arti...
Wnt/β-catenin signaling regulates cardiac Cx43 in a metabolic substrate-dependent manner
Both Nav1.5 and Cx43 are critical for the fast electrical impulse conduction in the myocardium and their reductions create the arrhythmogenic substrat…

🧬 New pig models of neonatal #HCM show severe cardiac #hypertrophy and perinatal lethality from MYBPC3 and MYH7 mutations.
Pigs were highly sensitive to sarcomeric gene disruption, developing severe HCM, suggesting they may not be ideal genetic models.

12-week-old #ob/ob mice show mild DCM with no major structural changes in #MAMs.
Proteins linked to lipid metabolism and stress response were increased in MAMs, while hypoxic stress triggered more cardiomyocyte death.
