Enlightenment Rationalist. Big John Dewey fan.
Hey don't forget us here in Maine, we're right next door. My brother lives in New Brunswick, so no more border crossings!

If only Gibbons were around to chronicle this final stage of the descent of the US from a Republic to an Imperial Empire.

With apologies to Sinclair Lewis, it is increasingly clear that Stephen Miller is now acting as Lee Sarason to Trump's Buzz Windrip.

Remember, it's a 17-game season now. Most of NFL history consisted of 14- and 16-game seasons, so lifetime records are qualified now.

I hope the headline "Donald the Dove, Hillary the Hawk" follows Dowd to the grave and beyond.

Her bitter, personal vendetta against Hillary (and Al Gore before her) did more to give us Donald Trump than anything else. She and James Comey will go down in infamy as the ultimate Trump enablers.

As I always joke, it's all Anna Quindlen's fault. If she hadn't quit her NYT columnist job to write novels, Dowd would be an unknown gossip writer at Vanity Fair.

I have never felt more politically homeless.

As you pointed out in your dissertation, nearly one hundred years ago, Walter Lippmann and John Dewey engaged in a critical discussion based on the question "Where is the Public?"

In a chaotic world such as ours, how do we locate a "Public" or an "Audience"? The answer remains as elusive as ever.

Charles, good to see you back posting. We miss your insights and wit.

Don't worry, Jake Tapper is on the case! Look for blanket, wall-to-wall coverage on this story, just as he did with Biden.

Just imagine if Joe Biden had (oh never mind)...

This recalls Ruth Bader Ginsberg's famous reply when asked how she observed Christmas, "Just like any devout and observant Jew does, I order Chinese takeout!"

Sheer magic! Thank you, Mr. Kopp.

Keep your chin up, Jay.

These are trying times for us all. Our mutual mentor, John Dewey, once wrote that it is virtually impossible to be a healthy, thriving individual in an unstable world that lacks enduring community values that can claim our allegiance and guide our actions. I welcome 2026.
