I think she’s confusing the much later fugitive slave posses for law enforcement again. We were founded on resistance to oppression. We did not sacrifice our way to the Treaty of Paris, just to end up with this accident of a law degree.

Tech has also been politics and power, from times even before the stirrup. We’re with you. (It’s the disingenuous ‘nobody in the henhouse but us tech-bros, just doing tech’ folks that we gotta watch out for.)

Thank you for the correction!

This. Names are important - no tough guy cosplay acronyms that actually couch weakness. This lets us remember our roles in government are to serve. Immigration and Naturalization Service was great because it’s stated mission was ‘on the tin’.

Congress will need to enact a mechanism to claw back our tax dollars from the personal accounts of any individual that enabled or participated in this personal, partisan retribution. This is not the business of state - it is the business of an individual who has confused themselves for the state.

We have all the evidence we need that they are unfit for natural selection. Exhibit A is every financial crisis, we have to bail these geniuses out; Exhibit B is the ‘disrupt everything’ bros now trying to lock everything down. (No, this behavior does not establish genius, only rent-seeking skill.)

This. Our tax dollars are now going to be spent in settlements to all of the IP holders being violated. ‘These were not the smartest guys, and things got out of hand.’

Judge, jury and, in the hands of a tired chef, executioner. I don’t know if this is true or not but Japanese urban legend has it that Fugu (Blowfish) restaurants used to have hard slate floors so chefs could hear the sound of chopsticks clattering to the floor and make a run for it.

David Lean would like a word with Mr Sarandos. Well, two words, actually.

There goes DHS spending all our tax dollars waving the red cape in front of all the best IP lawyers - maybe they licensed the clip but I’m guessing no. Hope we can get a clawback from these numskulls after they’ve burned our national treasure on legal fees. Meanwhile, grabbing some 🍿

“Imagine a child actor, bashing away for decades at the weak material that made them famous as they age from moppetry into bleak middle age; imagine, too, that the material in question all militates towards making it impossible for various classes of vulnerable people to exist in public.”

This is why I subscribe to Aftermath - thank you. If an industry regularly and falsely accused of fueling literal violence in its presentation of fictional violence, as in all other art forms before it, cannot tell the difference, I’m concerned we all have lessons to re-learn.
