He could well be washed. But I wonder if he's even trying. I think all his energy and brain power is focused on Jordon Hudson to the exclusion of all else. Wouldn't be the first 70-something in history to fall into that particular doom.

I have a personally autographed copy of Alexander Kerensky's memoirs I got as a teenager. He was living in an Upper East Side townhouse belonging. to an investment partner of my dad's in the '60s. I still have it on my shelves, although it is unreadable.

The oldest player in major league baseball is more than 30 years younger than I am. So?

They should study Phillies history. The 1976-78 playoff losses were tough to take. I was there, I know. 1979 after getting Pete Rose was tougher still. But then came 1980. Team didn't strip it to the studs. It took the punches and came back with the same group.

There have been so few examples of the latter because the NFL is seen as the pinnacle of the profession. When Saban left the Dolphins for Alabama many folks inside the NFL were genuinely shocked.

I covered Belichick with the Pats I felt he'd do better than Mack Brown, but not much better. I didn't predict that he'd lose interest in running a program with an iron hand in favor of sex with a woman one-third his age. I understand, but it's embarrassing. Also, he's stealing UNC's money.

Topper's an old school. baseball lifer perfect for a regular season with a team of accomplished veterans. But old school guys sometimes have a terrible fondness for old school plays. Like the bunt, for example.

I'm not a particularly brave person, but I'll have no problem walking past a member of the Texas or any other state's National Guard to vote. I don't think they'll look too intimidating, either.

OK, at worst the Phils are gonna die with their boots on. That's not nothing.

I'm surprised. When Pete Rose was on the Reds, Philly crowds didn't boo him. They were afraid they'd make him mad. I'd feel the same way about Ohtani. Want to make him hit a 700 foot homer? Keep booing.

I was eating dinner in the kitchen when the Phillies got three runs in the second in Game One. So I have not seen them score for 13 innings now. I have not seen them get an extra-base hit.

One hit? One goddamn hit!?!

I believe every NFL team, from the Super Bowl champs down to the Titans, has one game per season in which they play to about 15 percent of their ability level and look like their shoelaces are tied together.

The NFL is the only thing keeping the broadcast networks afloat.

Ever go to Duffs for wings? Mandatory stop for us lucky daily guys who flew in.

Nice piece Chris. I never drove, thank God, but Buffalo was always IMO an underrated road trip.

Playoff baseball takes a team's worrisome problems from a long season and distills it into a game's worth of fatal flaws. Through 162 regular season games, the Red Sox were inconsistent hitters who struck out too much and oft-shoddy fielders. Those traits turned last night into Yanks 4-Sox 0.

I would say Schmidt was his equal, because third on artificial turf was just a little more difficult than on grass. Like a hockey goalie.

Many Red Sox fans (like my son) live and work in New York, but fandom is a product of childhood, as you know.

What do all wars create? Among other things, refugees. Lots of them.

Born and raised in Wilmington. It was a good place to do that. I did, however, leave it to go to college in New England and did not return. That was over 50 years ago. Have a brother and friends who still live there. They love it. At its best, Wilmington is pleasant if unexciting.

When was the last time the Patriots just blew an opponent out? A record search indicates it was almost three years ago, when on 10/16/22 they beat the Browns 38-15. So if Patriots fans are finding the rout of the Panthers today a little strange as well as pleasant, it's understandable.
