There wasn't a good list of accounts related to video essays - so I made this starter pack! Who did I miss? Who do you know who should join Bluesky to share & talk about video essays?

It’s so fucking funny that we’re still getting five NYT op-eds a week calling for the left to tone down their rhetoric

Remember when Hillary Clinton called some Trump supporters “deplorable“?

Saw The Beths tonight in Paris. IMO they're the tops of any band at that stage in their career. Just incredible at every aspect of their craft: writing perfect songs, playing them flawlessly, and putting on a wide-ranging mesmerizing show—even after having their instruments stolen! Check them out!

I spent much of the days listening to The Beths to prep for seeing them tomorrow in Paris. Then just read this on their (fabulous) travel blog: the band's van was broken into and most of their instruments were stolen! Why can't we have nice things?!

To be fair, NCIS is the best television series of the 21st century!

Yes - and problem is with the politico groupthink where maximizing "ratings/votes" = the best version of "art/civil society"

How much do you regard your media criticism as telling producers how to make television?

"Academic levels of discourse" is an anti-intellectual smack against those of us who spend a lot of words to analyze things that normal people find obvious. It's her meta-snobbery against the professional snobs!

At Cemetery du Père-Lachaise in Paris today, I checked out Pierre Bourdieu's final habitus. Everyone at Père-Lachaise belongs to the elite, but among the thousands of graves there, he's clearly exhibiting middling cultural and economic capital.

Isn't that what the abstract is for?

Although now in Paris, where you need to buy rides in advance in an app or a card, which is so much less convenient for visitors

Just shaking my head thinking about all of the lawyer fees that would result from mass vacancies like that

Good to know! Amsterdam was my first time with this model and glad to hear it's not as much of an anomaly as I'd assumed.

But do you need to set up an account or app? Here it’s just a debit card
jmittell.bsky.social
Not as of a few years ago when I was last there

Yeah, I got an international bank account / debit card that deals with every currency with no real fees (and can actually easily accept reimbursements from European universities!) - transformative for this temporary ex-pat!
