I guess it’s been a minute since I’ve been in a church with a full font because I wept when I walked into Christ Church Tacoma this morning and saw this.
A pale blue circular glass bowl full to the brim with water sits atop the point of a slenderly pyramidal wooden stand in the aisle of a brutalist sanctuary, looking towards the altar. The light through the water and glass cast an illuminated shadow in a circle beneath it.

The grey Scottish fold is sitting upright upon a green linen easy chair as if he were a little man, front paws crossed demurely in his lap, returning the viewer’s gaze with a neutral expression.

A closer crop of the same image as before but this time with the author’s feet, a copy of Anne Sexton’s sected poem, and a sunbeam shining directly on the very small grey Scottish fold whose eyes are now tightly shut.

Mungo’s favorite respite is beneath the “mon seul desir” banner of the 6th and final Lady & the Unicorn tapestry. It means “my sole desire” and some critics believe it may refer to the solitude of the tent behind her, to which she may retreat after disrobing her sensual adornments.
A very small grey Scottish fold is perched upon a vast expanse of oxblood Pendleton wool banded gold and navy at his feet. Above him hangs the facsimile of a medieval tapestry depicting a woman flanked by a lion, pomeranian, unicorn, and another smaller woman. She is either placing a necklace into a container held by the smaller or taking it out. Behind her is a tent held open by the beasts, and around her are woven flora, fauna, and flags amidst a background of faded red.
