Co-author here! DAMPs, ROS, and some other mechanisms could indeed still work, but with the severe impairments to other parts of the innate and adaptive immune systems, it is unlikely that they’d save humans from mirror bacterial infection. More in ch 4 of the report: purl.stanford.edu/cv716pj4036.
