Is there any evidence of how that worked for them when they reached northern Britain?

😯 More 1970s than 1790s!

Did you know that the Pedlars Act 1871 is still in force - you can still get a pedlar's licence

Ugh, I've spent the day data cleansing survey responses and "yes" is looking weird!

I believe the Cote de Buttertubs (amongst others) is still thus named since the 2014 edition

I only have to look at the lengths of things. Rich people are apparently taller. When the trousers are hung at my shoulder height and the hems are at mid-calf, I know I can't afford it.

I have some I know have been there all my life, because eg my mum used to use them to measure where to hem my school skirts - but so many others I wouldn't know where to start!

January 6, 2026 at 1:11 PM
Hurrah, well done. And good luck tomorrow!
January 3, 2026 at 5:31 PM
No, but we leave our lights and some tinsel up until Candlemas. It makes January a lot more bearable!
January 2, 2026 at 6:14 PM
Absolutely! Our tree only goes up mid-December, so it's not too long. Tree and anything Nativity or Santa-related come down for 12th Night, but the lights and some tinsel stay until Candlemas. January is too grim to do without some sparkle.
