I guess when you are trying to defend a government which is enacting the absolute most hostile asylum and immigration policies in decades, and some of the most hostile in the world, you have to cling to anything you can while you still claim to be "progressive" to justify them though. 3/3

Not just the weather in the channel btw. What people seem to ignore is that those waiting to cross didn't just materialise in Calais. You have to also look at what obstacles they have had to overcome further along the route, again, pretty much none to do with harsher anti-asylum policies. 2/3
