Things are happening at Portland's ICE facility tonight.

Go frogs!

(I am not ambivalent about amphibians.)

The frogs have landed in Chicago!

Anything that leads us to other interesting things to hear is good.

My mailing address is Bowie, Maryland. "Bow" has about 27 pronunciations and folks can't decide which one to use. (Locals: it's just like David's last name: Boo-ee.)

Heather Richardson, in the attached letter, wrote of Warren G. Harding:

The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) today floated the idea that workers furloughed during a government shutdown are not guaranteed back pay when the shutdown is resolved.

We'll, I'm from Kansas City, which probably says all that needs to be said.

(Except: I enjoyed NC barbecue when I lived there, too.)

I was half dozing when I got this randomly from my music database. For maybe the first minute, I was convinced it was by Michael Nyman! But--no!--Henry Purcell; just off by 300 years.

Still, it's a strange but beautiful aria, beautifully performed by my favorite countertenor.

Valid point. I/we are working on it as quickly as we can; with the biggest ones it can take lots of flushing.

The bamboo backdrop really gives a nice Highland flavor.

BTW, I like bagpipes; I'm the only person I know who does.

Yes, but next time you see one, I feel certain this is exactly what you'll do. Thus being collections. (I saw on in Rome, and one in ... Milwaukee, I think. Maybe I should see where they can be fond and make that a tour!)

I understand. I'm from Kansas, never developed much longing for water. Lived in Colorado for a year and imprinted on mountains. So, I much prefer the hilly or mountainous vs coastal--although prairie-flatness from Kansas is also in my vocabulary, but I only want to *visit* the southern Delmarva.

I agree. And the US is currently on a destructive fast track to find out just how much immigrants contribute to our society and GDP.

I'm sorry, but what's wrong with giving health care to immigrants? Republicans don't even want to give health care to citizens, but I don't understand the argument against keeping people who contribute billions of dollars to the economy healthy. It's also less expensive in the long run.
jnshaumeyer.bsky.social
Hooray! I do this too, although I've only come across 2 of these in my travels, so only two YKB-selfies--so far!

How to build functioning government of blue states:

"The solution doesn’t require leaving the union or violence. The anti-commandeering principle, upheld repeatedly by the Supreme Court in cases like Printz v. United States and Murphy v. NCAA, means states cannot be forced to enforce federal law."
We Need to Talk About Soft Secession
Is it legal? Is it possible? And can we afford to wait and find out?

Cool! I hope I got the location right. I live on the western shore but enjoy a day trip across the bay sometimes. We've driven by the campus but never stopped to look; need to remedy that. I know a few younger people who went there and they seemed to prosper.

We live outside DC, but I do like to visit the western mountains when we can.

I should have recognized this immediately as one of yours, Bill, but all I thought about was how much I liked it and all the subtexts swirling around it.

Final example (3/3) of still water = #Relax. This is a dock in Chestertown, Maryland [USA], on Maryland's Eastern Shore.

A small boat with two empty masts is moored at a dock; the boat and cloud above, and the pier at left are all beautifully reflected in the very still water of this inlet of the Chesapeake Bay.

More in the still water = #Relax for me (example 2/3): this pond is the source for the C&O Canal, in Cumberland, Maryland [USA], in the western mountains of the state.

#BlueskyArtShow #photo
A very still pond in the foreground reflects a small brick building on a very green, grassy rise, with a small, trussed foot-bridge at left.

I guess there's something about smooth-water reflections that says #Relax to me (example 1/3). This is Loy's Station Bridge, in Thurmont, Maryland [USA] (one of 5 covered bridges in Frederick County, MD). 16 July 2017

In a wooded area, this is a covered bridge, painted red, reflected in a lightly rippled stream.

Just so: so tired I blink and many seconds later, startled to realize I neglected to re-open my eyelids.

Provincial I guess, but I really enjoyed the unique parts of the collection I got to see, especially the wealth of "Group of 7" works and learning about them. It was a very nice place to be in for awhile.
