• Misalignment between training and funded posts
• Hiring freezes and fiscal constraints
• Informal and volunteer work that masks “true” unemployment
• Protests and outward migration as responses to blocked careers

This rapid review builds on prior alarms that have been raised over the past decade and includes data from 33 countries. Across reporting countries, the unemployment rate may be as high as 26.8% for physicians and 39.7% for nurses &midwives (!). Trends probably worsened after the pandemic.
