I do tangrams with my high schoolers on the first day of school. It helps break up the first-day monotony and builds group working. We start with making specific shapes, then sometimes do "freestyle" where groups make a figure themselves for the class to replicate.

This! And sometimes I will say, "I am not going to compete with your voices," if additional direction is needed. Learned it in student teaching, use it all the time!
