We decided to focus on 4 core traits and rather expand on the functions when setting up this synthesis. But I agree, there is more to RD and SRL than just mycorrhiza. Therefore, and because of the differing CWM-RES, it made sense to test relationships with single traits rather than entire gradients.

Excited and proud to see this paper published! Another example of a fruitful (and fun!) collaboration of #root scientists.
Thanks to the leading team, to @newphyt.bsky.social and to many global scientific networks and experiments for making it possible.

As happy author I wold like to advertise my new book. I am presenting what do we know about functions of plant morphological characters. I hope it will change a way how ecologists look at plants and insipire them in their research. (link.springer.com/book/10.1007...
Plant Bodies
The book about how the knowledge of the shapes of the plant body contributed and contributes to the understanding of plant life strategies.

Belowground persistence types relevant to severe disturbance
Despite recent advances in plant trait ecology, we identified a knowledge gap in understanding how plants strategize to cope with severe and recurrent disturbances. Here, we propose a new classificati...

SP4's greenhouse experiment at @zalf.bsky.social wrapped! 🌿 Studying root, leaf & hyperspectral traits across crops, phytometers & arable weeds - grown with or without mycorrhiza. Now analyzing individual plants and their leaves and roots to uncover trait variation. #formula #agroforestry

I am thinking along similar lines these days for similar reasons, I assume. It's a fine line and one should always question the own behavior no matter how easy going we think we are. Thanks for having done so over the years, I always felt safe, encouraged and supported in your lab 🌱

I agree with both points. Measuring mycorrhizal colonization remains key to undoubtedly link D to collaboration. And anatomical traits should be a research focus (among others). There is a math relationship between D and SRL which strengthens the collaboration gradient irrespective of functioning.
