I have never had an interaction with cops that left me with the impression that they think their main job is protecting the public. And I'm white and middle class, so I can't imagine how awful it is for those who don't tick those 2 boxes. They think they are enforcers and punishers, period.

Zactly! The endgame is to own all and for the rest of us to pay rent. They don't even try to hide it.

Yep, that's what we did, and then paid it off early, long ago. We haven't had a mortgage payment for 18 years. But we were fortunate that we were able to do that. Most people can't. (We did buy far less house than we could afford, and that was key. Also, having no children.)
