Managed to grab an iPhone pic of the (so-called) Harvest Supermoon between banks of cloud. At 7.25pm, we are too low to see it rising any earlier. Harvest time it may be but I don’t get the super bit! @metoffice.gov.uk

Quite a decent colony when I visited two years ago. I didn’t count plants though.

They were all the way up the trunk, a lovely sight!

Back in June, we hosted a team from #GardenersWorld to share how we’ve been improving the grounds of the National Museums Collection Centre for biodiversity. 🎬 🐞🪰🌿🌼

Catch it here:

Behind the scenes from our day of filming. Here I’m crouched down in one of the grassland areas looking at an orchid, with camera operator Gavin and producer Charlotte.

Watched it last night. Great message being carried to Gardeners World watchers. Nice to see Dorothy in there too! Bravo🙏🏻

😢Just seen news item, I didn't twig ...

Agreed. September was clearly the second peak

Post was from 9 Sept near the coast; was same in our city garden, for once the buddleja was actually behaving like a butterfly bush! But yes agreed, depends on time of year and species. We had a bumper year for recently arrived Holly Blues in 2024; not so much in 2025

I find this statement @savebutterflies.bsky.social difficult to understand. As far as I'm aware 2025 has been the best for #butterflies for some years: "Despite great weather this summer, the number of butterflies recoded in the Big Butterfly Count only reached average levels." #ukwildlife

Interesting, the books don’t say that about clonal patches. I did spot a few patches during the visit. The plant was itself an “other interesting thing”, I was there looking for toothed fungi. Successfully!

I wish I'd counted the plants. Last time I saw these was on 13/06/2006, also at Culbin Forest on long excursion with @edinburghnats.bsky.social. I didn't take a grid ref then (or this time sadly), just hoped to find them again.

Culbin Forest 24/09/2025, is this Serrated Wintergreen (Orthilia secunda), gone over? Can this be confirmed? @bsbiscotland.bsky.social @bsbibotany.bsky.social @forestresearchuk.bsky.social @edinburghnats.bsky.social

Great, thanks for clarifying. Looks obvious against your photo, and with the description too.😊
joaniemcnaughton.bsky.social
I don’t see too many of them in the east, only know if one spot at Basmwsinch (SWT reserve).

Although I might change my mind!
