I look forward to working with you, Secretary Treasurer-elect Lorraine Montemayor and the entire team to build our infrastructure of opportunity here in Texas.

Congratulations to Rick Levy on your success as President of the @texasaflcio.org. I know President-elect Aguilar Leonard will build on your work to grow a labor movement that stands up for the people of Texas.

A masked ICE agent pointed a gun at a US citizen because she was filming him.

Another shot a priest with a pepper spray gun because he was protesting.

The priest said “we could hear them laughing.”

Trump is using cruelty and fear to silence Americans and rob us of our rights. We won’t let him.

Later today, the Senate will have the opportunity to vote for @schiff.senate.gov and @kaine.senate.gov's resolution to prevent Trump from taking us into yet another endless war.

I urge Senators to vote yes.

Over the last few months, the Trump Administration has pursued illegal military action in the Caribbean and are preparing for what looks like a regime change military operation in Venezuela.

Without a vote and without public debate.

Unfortunately, the Trump Administration has cancelled our San Antonio passport event due to the government shutdown.

If you had urgent travel, please call my district office at (210) 348-8216.

My Texas colleagues and I demand that Governor Abbott stand up to Trump and bring back the Texas National Guard where it belongs—to Texas.

Today we remember and mourn the victims of Hamas’ brutal attack on October 7th. I grieve for the families of the hostages and victims. May we honor their memory by working towards the release of the remaining hostages.

Health care prices will soar an average of $459 for 87K people in our San Antonio district if Republicans let critical tax credits expire. Families can’t afford to pay more for insurance—Congress needs to extend these tax credits.

I urge the Israeli government to release the U.S. citizens and ensure their safe return to the United States, and the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem to continue consular visits with detained American citizens and to work toward their immediate release.

The Texas National Guard should be used to help Texans. But Governor Abbott has surrendered again to Trump who is weaponizing our Guard in Oregon, Illinois and elsewhere. Texans are rejecting this authoritarian move and so should Congress.

No debate. No vote in Congress. Just Trump.

On the same day the President said he will send the military into American cities for “training” and to fight the “enemy from within,” he asserted to the Congress that we're in an armed conflict with an unspecified group of “enemies” that he alone gets to decide.

Disgraceful to hear about this morning's tragedy in Manchester during Yom Kippur. I am wishing the Jewish community peace and strength, and I am praying for the loved ones of the victims.

Wishing all who celebrate a blessed and meaningful Yom Kippur.

We are hours away from a shutdown that most Americans do not want. It’s unacceptable. I will do everything I can to minimize the harm to San Antonians.

My offices in DC and San Antonio will remain operating and available for you and your family. Please call 210-348-8216 if my office can be helpful.

Republicans control the House, Senate, and White House — they have only themselves to blame for a shutdown.

They need to negotiate with House Democrats to pass a budget, stop a shutdown, and protect healthcare for American families.

An Arizona Republican state representative called for @jayapal.house.gov to be “tried, convicted and hanged.”

That’s hateful, dangerous rhetoric that could incite violence. The Republican state representative should be held accountable.

My statement in regard to comments made by State Representative John Gillette of Arizona:

A shutdown is around the corner because Trump is refusing to negotiate a deal that protects affordable healthcare for millions of small business owners and middle-class families. Congress needs to extend ACA premium tax credits and keep folks in Texas and across the country insured.
joaquincastrotx.bsky.social
Donald Trump doesn’t give a damn about keeping Texas families insured. He's only focused on punishing his perceived enemies and wants a shutdown instead of extending ACA premium tax credits. Congress must extend these tax credits and keep healthcare more affordable. www.politico.com/news/2025/09...
joaquincastrotx.bsky.social
The government will shut down in 4 days because Republicans don’t want to extend ACA premium tax credits. Millions of Americans are going to be without health insurance if these tax credits go away. Congress needs to make them permanent. www.tpr.org/government-p...

The difference couldn't be clearer.

Democrats want to keep the government open and fund health care.

Republicans want to shut down the government so they can cut programs that help working people.

White House to agencies: Prepare mass firing plans for a potential shutdown
In memo, the Trump administration says the Reduction-in-Force plans would go beyond standard shutdown furloughs.
