This past semester was the most stressful of my academic career. I had 180 students and about half cheated at some point in the semester

Communities have more power than they think

Research on Walmart found that they avoided opening in towns where there were protests (Ingram, Yue, & Rao, 2010). And goldmines with community opposition are worth less (Henisz, Dorobantu, & Nartey, 2014)

I think the governors and mayors are trying to avoid having law enforcement arrest ICE agents because that seems like a pretty quick path to the insurrection act and martial law, perhaps even civil war. It seems like Trump is trying to call their bluff and instigate violence

There's been rumors that ICE will be at the marathon, but apparently the parks department has said they're false. Fingers crossed that ICE can control themselves for one freaking day

ICE shot a pastor in the head with pepper balls in Broadview, 20 min west of downtown Chicago. If the National Guard is going to be forced upon us, they should be protecting the people from ICE - not vice versa

It looks like the Illinois National Guard is already in the process of being federalized and deployed. I'm not sure Pritzker could then also deploy Illinois Nat Guard if that's finalized

This is an invasion - the Texas Nat Guard is becoming Trump's personal army

Twitter post by Texas Governor Greg Abbott on October 5th. Original post included a retweet of a post by Illinois Governor JB Pritzker. Pritzker's post:

"This evening, President Trump is ordering 400 members of the Texas National Guard for deployments to Illinois, Oregon, and other locations within the United States. No officials from the federal government called me directly to discuss or coordinate."

Abbott's post:

"I fully authorized the President to call up 400 members of the Texas National Guard to ensure safety for federal officials.

You can either fully enforce protection for federal employees or get out of the way and let Texas Guard do it.

I’m sharing a Palestinian account every day and today is Ramadan. Ramadan is 23 years old and worked in his father’s sewing factory. His father was killed and now he’s responsible for his family including his siblings Rula, 26, Rami, 20 and Ramey, 17 as well as his 2 year old nephew Jihad.

This article has a good discussion of the true number killed in Gaza - we can't know exactly because of bodies trapped under rubble and the destruction or damage of 34 hospitals

Most estimates from earlier this year range from 120,000 to >200,000. And that number could be much higher from famine
