Very happy to answer any questions about this opportunity. It's a great role and doing it has certainly made me a much better writer.

We're looking for someone with a PhD in the area of European security, who is well organised with good communication skills. If you've quantitative skills / an area of expertise that adds to our existing team, we'd particularly like to hear from you. We can offer a set amount of editorial expenses.

This but also as a journal editor, it's depressing how much time we have to spend trying to police research misconduct now. Especially as for the AI stuff there's no consequences.

The AI authorship issue is real. We've caught papers that looked OK but had references to works by the *journal editors* that *do not exist*. Like, don't send us papers citing papers we know we didn't write, right?

On the train home from #UACES2025. Thank you to everyone who participated in the European Security track - hopefully see you at other @seceur-uaces.bsky.social events. Loved returning 'home' to Liverpool too!

After last year's bus + ferry + 4 x trains trek to Trento, getting on a direct train to Liverpool for #uaces2025 feels like a bit of an anti-climax!

#UACES2025 starts on Monday in Liverpool. Once again, a range of brilliant panels. Many of them in our themed track on European security. I hope to see many of you there to discuss foreign interference, small state specialisation, and many other topics.

We're looking forward to seeing lots of the network in Liverpool next week for #UACES2025! We've organised 10 panels so there should be lots of great discussion on European security.

This is great reading. It offers a very limited hope that European defence may ever work, but it does not rule it out entirely, so that's a relief. It's also slightly depressing research-wise. The complexity of it all almost prevents any meaningful understanding. In any case, go and read it!

Thanks to my fantastic co-authors @brunoomartins.bsky.social & @nicholasmarsh.bsky.social and to my colleagues @nclpolitics.bsky.social who encouraged our progress on this in a difficult year at work. The IR group writing retreat made the difference!

This research was part of a PRIO project on the reshaping of the European security architecture following the war in Ukraine. A previous paper www.ifo.de/DocDL/econpo... came out a while ago, and more is in the pipeline.

Any political intervention - irrespective of the goals it seeks to achieve - needs to understand the dynamics of the network and should pursue strategies that recognise the very different motivations, strategic cultures, threat perceptions and institutional cultures that co-exist.

We propose conceptualising the political economy of Euro defence as an Iron Network. The concept builds on US literature on the military-industrial complex that labelled it an iron triangle. In Europe, things are different. The process of rearmament has different levels and involves multiple actors.
