A healthy "expectation vs reality" mindset. If a case study looks straight out of a bootcamp asset template, then I'll dig in to see if they can frame the constraints, collaboration challenges, and systemic challenges they faced. Otherwise it's a harsh awakening to work in corporate bureaucracy.

I'm grateful that my colleagues, my company's policies, and my city mostly seem to affirm my values in a safe bubble. But losing any of those things would make it even harder to continue speaking up.

Side note: I had to edit so much of this down to fit in one skeet. Character limits are a big reason why the internet doesn't grasp nuance (like sex vs gender). C'mon @bsky.app, we have the technology. Give us more characters to work with.

That said, we all know that the absence of design is still design. Walking away won't bring us bliss in ignorance. People change, circumstances change, and UX design adapts to meet people where they're at, even if that takes us to new, salty, cynical places.
