When Ederson first came to city, it took time to get used to a ball playing keeper - how long until we all get used to the fact we don't have that, really, anymore? And how do we react to better high pressing teams than Brentford really targeting Donnarumma? (Which I think they will)
joeburnsmcr.bsky.social
It's a culture shock getting used to us with Donnarumna in goal. He does an amazing save to keep it at 1-0, but also at one point in the 2nd half knocks it straight out for a throw in at a goal kick, in our own half, that then leads to about 5 minutes of Brentford pressure...

The City game has become much more tense in the second half, but at least with the CAMRA discount two beers costs only £4.03 at the Royal Oak in Chorlton. That helps things somewhat.

A moving, honest story about the Crumpsall terrorist attack and the long history of Jews and Muslims in North Manchester.

Desmond seems very interesting in the goat gravy in particular, in our takeaway from The Drop Inn...

(If you're in South Manchester, it's the place to go for Carribbean food in our humble opinion)

Yesterday's attack was truly horrific, on a community that's been part of Manchester's fabric since at least the C18th, and whose story the Manchester Jewish Museum tells with real eloquence. If anyone is in Manchester who has never visited, I'd strongly recommend it.

One of my main memories of that visit was when our guide showed us a map of all the previous and current synagogues in the city.

"Often when we talk about abandoned synagogues, it's a sad story. But not here - synagogues close down as the community moves and expands, here it's a happy story'.

When me & my partner visited a few years ago we were fortunate to almost have the place to ourself, minus a school group. One of the wonderful volunteers walked us around the museum, the highlight of which was the restored synagogue where he talked us through what each item in there meant.

Manchester Jewish Museum opened in 1984, but is housed in a Grade II listed 1874 (former) Spanish and Portuguese synagogue in Cheetham Hill, which has been beautifully restored as part of the development of the museum.

It's fine, I've still got all my hair, it's still good, I'm still young...

A fact that floors me completely is that next year I (and presumably you as well) will become as old as Homer Simpson is in the classic series of the Simpsons... (I have a feeling they may have made him older in the newer ones)

Within the first year of my daughter’s life, the Lionesses have won the Euros and the Red Roses have won the World Cup in front of sell-out crowds and huge tv audiences and it’s so wonderful to know she will grow up thinking that of course women play sport and of course everybody watches it

Final night in Lagos, and the scores all went my way in the football, so picked up some prosecco at the shop round the corner (lost of booze available at low low prices) to celebrate it all...

Been enjoying some excellent fish whilst we've been in Lagos (Portugal), thanks to a recommendation from a friend of Morwenna's who visits here a lot. The Adega da Marina is the place to be. Fantastic fish, and the table wine was a very reasonable €5 per litre...

In the spirit of rapprochement after Trumps' insane talk at the UN, I would like to say thank you to the lovely Americans on the table next to us at dinner, who offered us their litre of table wine when leaving. Truly, you are better ambassadors for your nation than your president will ever be.

VAR is still crap, but I can't deny there's something very novel about being this close when it all takes place (I'm usually in the third tier, treated myself to some pitch side action for the game tonight)

Bit closer to the pitch tonight, for a change.

Yeah, we can beat bottom-half teams comfortably, but anyone decent... I'm not super confident, but had to be at the game tonight to see KdB's (hopefully not triumphal) return.

Can't remember the last time this happened! (Mainly cos my memory is awful). Khusa and O'Reilly were great on the weekend, hoping for more of the same from them tonight.

And I'm *also* hoping the black cat I bumped into on the way into the game isn't a harbinger of bad luck...

Made a friend when leaving the house earlier... (Maybe Vinny and Desmond have been putting a good word in with the other neighbourhood cats?)
