“Since the levy was introduced, the number of apprenticeship starts has fallen by a third.”

If the PM’s apprenticeship plan is to work, it must reform the failed levy argues @joedromey.bsky.social for @politicshome.bsky.social.

At Labour Conference, CLF co-hosted a panel with @fabiansociety.bsky.social on London’s inequality.

Despite being the UK’s economic engine, London has the highest poverty levels. We need fair funding, better jobs, and more devolution.

The UK has a proud record on overseas aid.

But in recent years we've seen cuts in the development budget, and a fracturing on the political consensus around aid.

In 'Promising Development', we explore the future of aid in an uncertain world.

Really ugly scenes on the train home from central London this eve. I fear the same is being repeated across the city.

Something dark and divisive has been unleashed. We need to find a way to take the temperature down and come back together.

Angela Rayner has played a crucial role in Labour's journey from a devastating defeat, to a historic victory.

She has driven the agenda on housing and workers' rights, two of the most important and popular parts of Labour's programme.

She can be proud of all she has achieved.

I'm in the Times arguing why there should be a lifetime cap on tax-free gifts.

Income gained through luck or crafty financial planning shouldn't always be tax-free.

If we believe in equality of opportunity, a cap is necessary.

I'm in @labourlist.bsky.social on why Labour must help 1st time buyers onto the property ladder

The government must urgently tackle the barriers that are preventing the expectation of homeownership from becoming a reality.

“If you believe that success should depend on hard work and that Britain should be a country of equality of opportunity, a cap on lifetime tax-free gifts is essential.”

Should there be a cap on inheritance tax-free gifts?
The chancellor is said to be considering limiting the amount you can give away before you die. We hear both sides of the argument
