In fact, you remind me a bit of those holy priests, the way they talked about Jesus and unclean spirits, in their silken vestments (and I in my starched white surplice assisting them at Mass) while they perpetrated and covered up actual evil on the children in their charge.

I was one of those little boys. Repeatedly raped and assaulted as an adolescent in a Catholic Franciscan junior seminary. The perp was the Prefect of Discipline, a Father Mario Cimmarrusti, OFM. Protected by his superior, Father Xavier Harris, OFM. Moved from one school to another to protect him.

I remember a bit of advice from a long-ago writing teacher. I was actually struggling to describe a character climbing a hill, how detailed I should get. He said, "Just write, 'From the top of the hill he could see...' Unless there is something about the hike that adds to the action, don't bother."
