We need to make sure chemical laws apply to all products sold, including by foreign online platforms. We need an anti-fast-fashion law: a tax on textile products (higher for fast fashion), use it to support repair and reuse, and a ban on fast-fashion advertising, including on social media

Similarly to 3 years ago when Greenpeace exposed the chemicals in SHEIN products, a pair of boots👢 delivered to Switzerland contains phtalates at a concentration 71x higher than the authorized limits.

Tests by an independent laboratory have shown that 18 out of 56 articles of the ultra-fast fashion SHEIN platform, including clothes for children, contain dangerous chemicals at levels breaching the EU Chemicals Regulation #REACH, also applicable in Switzerland 🇨🇭 . Including phtalates and PFAS.

The ordinances need to enable reusable packaging systems and create a level playing field between recycling and reuse. Right now, not in 10 years. A target of 40% reuse by 2040 should be set for drinks packaging as well as an intermediate target for large companies.

Plastic recycling targets would not put a single dent on the amount of waste produced, nor protect human health from the #hazardous substances found in plastic. On the contrary, it will lock the consumption system deeper into more single use packaging, more pollution and more waste.

With the Umwelt-Allianz - Alliance Environnement, we have raised a number of points that need to be integrated in the OLED/VVEA and OEm/VerP ordinances @de.greenpeace.ch @fr.greenpeace.ch

#INC52 #BreakFreeFromPlastic

The only way to reduce microplastic exposure is to cut plastic production.

Tell world leaders to step up and deliver a strong Global #PlasticsTreaty that cuts plastic production:
Let’s end the age of plastic! - Greenpeace International
I support a strong Global Plastics Treaty that cuts plastic production so that we can finally turn off the tap and end the age of plastic - for our communities, our country, and our planet. Join me
