Got up and out early this morning to clear my head and caught the sun rising over the south flank of Mt Hood. This scene lasted only a second or two before the sun was too bright to get the shot.

This is Kilauea, on the Big Island of Hawaii, and this eruption started in earnest this morning about 10:30 local time. When I first saw it with my own eyes, I was floored. Speechless. Emotional, even. It was unbelievably beautiful, powerful, and raw.

I visited Cape Disappointment on the Washington Coast on Saturday, just before high tide on a stormy day. I didn't capture the perfect wave, but there were some pretty cool looking shapes that formed as large waves came in and collided with the return from the previous wave.
