What happens when two data engineering authors meet? Total nerding out on the craft of writing.

@ssp.sh and I chat about technical writing and much more.

Is dating hard for you right now? Don’t despair. Pick up a copy of Fundamentals of Data Engineering, and you’ll be in love with your soul mate before day’s end.

Better than any dating app or aphrodisiac.

The Concept2 app leaderboard shows someone who accumulates over 100,000 meters a day, either on a bike, row, or ski erg. This is over 5 hours a day.

How does someone have this much time to workout each day? Let alone accumulate 54 million meters?!

How does anyone - especially a YC company - think spam like this works or is ok? I have zero problem calling out fools like this.

Nice to be back at The Front Climbing Club in Salt Lake City. Pretty much my second home.

This is where I wrote a lot of Fundamentals of Data Engineering

Parkinson’s Law - “Work expands to fill the time allotted for it.” These and other insights about business from this classic book from 1957.

This is the original British print from 1958.

My nerdy friends @hannes.muehleisen.org and @jayatillake.bsky.social sitting ringside.

Also, keep your eye on Forward Data Conference in Paris. If this improves on the quality from this amazing first event, it runs the chance of being one of the best independent data conferences around.
