Looking to simplify my life in chaotic times. Nimrods Theatre, now in limbo with dreams of re-birth.
Would love to know the range of reasons. 😁

Ha! Just saw this post, I said this later down the thread. 😁

If only the world was like Star Wars with the clarity of red lightsabers and blue lightsabers. But alas, it is not..

I'm not necessarily betting against them. I just think they do not work at scale. Great for phones and (sorta?) cars, but not for a city.

There are these though:
Pumped Hydro Storage **
Gravity storage **
Compressed Air Energy Storage
Flywheel Energy Storage

** Best at scale / long duration

There is no enemy. There is just greed. If there was no money in it, there would be no problem.

Batteries are bad for different reasons. Scale, Duration, and Materials. And to quote Vaclav Smil:

I'm not the enemy.
Please don't do that.

Our batteries have limitations. People are working on that, and improvements have been made, but there are other issues .

The issue with renewables is they are intermittent, and need something to store the energy. There are many things (not just AI/data centers) that need 24/7 energy with no down time. There are many startups around the world trying to solve "fusion" - and IF solved, we are done. No more energy issues.

The spoken part:

Honey, it seems we are going to need to have a baby as the price of this condom went from $2 to $5. I can't afford the condom.

The unspoken part:

The cost of raising a kid to 18 years old is greater than $5.

Between the formal definition of a 'solution' and the actual problem there is a gap the size of the grand canyon. The problem existed for reasons, and addressing those reasons in the long run solved problems. Temperance led to Prohibition which caused MORE issues than it solved. "We" is overrated.

We might be talking past one another. I'm about as dry as the Sahara desert. I do not think that is the reason we have social mores, and 'understanding' does not come to mind when I envision tribalism in any form.
December 16, 2025 at 1:24 AM
Morals are not built and then adhered to... They sorta already exist and then you stray from them...

'Hedging' allows people to escape the natural feedback loop of reality. Consequences take second place next to monetary shenanigans, which then places 'money' above 'value'.

Result = decay 🫤

Art today is more in the idea.

Think "MTV Unplugged". People get miffed when the idea creator turns out to just be a hack. People are Ok with Picasso because his switch to ideas had gravitas.

That is what I think people complain about. Fwiw

Can you expand? I think I'm like 50% there but.... a little too abstract...

In related news, we are going to bring the N-word back. There is nothing wrong with the word per say and it just got imbued with all that nasty racism stuff.

Grow up Julian. Eugenics is not gene editing, which might fix some things. Look up the definition before you blather your thoughts

Fear of being the scapegoat is not necessarily motivated by having scapegoated someone. That last sentence lightly implies a causal link, as if we can clean up the world by excluding 'them' from life - which (drumroll please) - IS scapegoating.

Two things:

- Sweden went back to pen/paper, computers pulled from schools (AI was not a factor, dropping scores worldwide was)

- the anti-education Trumpers are accidentally factionalizing edu views, which will push defending 'our education system is good' WITH computers - to our detriment.
