I really enjoyed @joetidy.bsky.social book CTRL ALT CHAOS where he explores a lot of the motivations and evolution of capabilities on teenage hackers. I strongly recommend it as a read to get more understanding of this

My book's been out for 16 weeks now and I have signed more than 650 copies to give to people at events or send in the post. I will NEVER get tired of this! Making Ctrl+Alt+Chaos has been the hardest but most rewarding thing in my career.

You know how when the internet became a big deal and every company was called 'something'.com. Right now it feels like its that but for AI. Every company is 'Something' AI. I wonder when this will feel old fashioned...

Oh yes, I had forgotten about that

Our story about ransomware hackers trying to cut a deal with me to hack the BBC is the top talking point on my favourite security podcast - @riskybusiness.bsky.social . As yes, I agree with Adam - the hackers were dumb coming to me for access. On many levels: risky.biz/risky-busine...

Interesting. The hackers have messaged me to say they are now blurring the images of children. Even they now see how that their actions are beyond the pale. (Still continuing the extortion though). My conversation with them:
joetidy.bsky.social
The hackers have carried out their threats and posted more children’s profiles plus employee data onto the darknet. It’s hideous but also a desperate attempt to get paid. We have reported this but will not do a running commentary on their actions. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
Nursery hackers threaten to publish more children's profiles
The criminals say they will share 30 more profiles along with 100 employees' data if a ransom is not paid.

Our News at 10 segment on the nursery hacks here. One of the most shocking parts of this nasty little hack is that the criminals have hired people to call up some of the parents to say 'your kids data is going on the dark web unless you tell Kidos to pay us'.

The latest news is that JLR won’t restart production lines until at least 1st Oct. So it will be a full month since the attack. Lots of people asking me how it can take so long to recover. I did this piece about a ransomware attack on a Norway factory and this explains why: youtu.be/7yHsiTmUnPk?...
