plus drivers may be an issue for nvidia systems unfortunately but leaving nouveau, amdgpu, and i915 enabled mean it should be fine - i have a case for a 970 evo that i use so i overlooked write concerns thank you but lowering swappiness can help

thumb drive or external ssd and what kinds of things are you looking to do on it? rufus and other tools can quickly throw persistent space on any sort of bootable disk but i’ve had success with just doing a full install of my favorite distro to an ssd and booting it like an installed os in bios
