Pow! won Best Indigenous Film at Cordillera International Film Festival last month! It was so fun screening in Reno, hanging with our Remaining Native fam and just absolutely dominating every carnival game at the Circus, Circus midway. Perfect weekend!

In wild news, I’m screening Pow! on 10/13 as part of @ndncollective.bsky.social 's Indigenous People’s Day celebration in Rapid City, SD! I’m on the same bill as Jana Schmieding, Xiuhtezcatl and 206 hip hop legend Macklemore! Come through, support a great org and geek the hell out with me!

A week ago @goldie.bsky.social and I screened Pow! at Catalina Film Festival! Fun island, fun festival and even more fun two hours we spent driving around Avalon in a golf cart looking for cats to pet. Great experience no notes!

I wrote an episode for this season of Alma’s Way! I’m such a fan of Sonia Manzano, Lin-Manuel Miranda and everyone at Fred Rogers and I could not be happier to get to play in their sandbox. They even let me sneak in the flag of the Navajo Nation, which is just neat as heck!
Mosiac of images from the PBS series Alma's Way, including the show's logo, a young kid rapping on a microphone, the episode title "Potluck Snack Time" and a Native kid holding blue corn cakes and standing in front of the flag of the Navajo Nation.

It was an honor to screen my work at NatiVisions Film Festival on the CRIT reservation in Parker, AZ last week and I’m so happy that Pow! won the Best Short Film Award! Definitely make it out to this fest if you ever get a chance!

Here's a clip if you want to see Fire Captain Catáwi in action. Aside from protecting Builder Cove from fires, he also says a ton of dad jokes followed by his trademark catchphrase "ayyyye" and I love that we got this super rezzy thing in a hit kids show!

Rubble & Crew just debuted Fire Captain Catáwi, a new Native character inspired by my Cowlitz tribe! Watching Nickelodeon as a kid is a HUGE reason I'm a writer today, so getting to develop this character with the Rubble team and Cowlitz culture keeper Suzanne Donaldson is just so neat!

If you at all care about our freedom of speech, please use your voice and be loud about this. If you don’t, I’m genuinely scared about how much worse this could get.

I’m as progressive as they come and I don’t love a lot of what comedy has become over the past few years, but as a consumer, I just try not to frequent places where comedy I don’t like is happening. There’s a difference between that, and the head of the FCC threatening a company over its content.
joeytainment.bsky.social
This isn’t just “consequences” for a bad joke, this is the United States government using it’s full power to tell comedians what they can and cannot comment on. It’s a violation of the first amendment of our constitution and if it goes unchecked, it sets a terrifying precedent.

As a comedy writer, I’ve had a million conversations about cancel culture. Whatever your opinions about it, there’s a huge difference between that, and what the FCC is doing to Jimmy Kimmel.

I had three Pow! screenings in SoCal last month and they were all so fun! Thanks Studio City Film Festival, North Hollywood Cinefest and San Diego International Kids' Film Festival for having us!
