We're hiring. It's a real needle-in-a-haystack search for an experienced teacher who can help reimagine our flagship (i.e., huge) intro course for a new era. 3/3 load. Convenient to Hollywood and Holbox.

I wrote about Damion Searls’s new translation of The Third Reich of Dreams for @parapraxismag.bsky.social

I 1st learned about this book in an announcement for a poetry workshop. It’s a strange & surprising testament to the creativity of ordinary people.

Great call to arms by @cnewf.bsky.social, following the tactic of Jed Esty's "Future of Decline" by looking to Stuart Hall & the New Left, & urging us to forego "private agency within our universities" in favor of "collective agency by running them."

BlueSky: If you've started reading my new book, AESTHETIC IMPROPRIETY: PROPERTY LAW AND POSTCOLONIAL STYLE, and are enjoying it, please consider sending me a sentence or two explaining why.

It's for a thing I'm applying for (and a small monetary award for future research funds). Thanks!

I closed out my Intro to Literary Studies course for new English majors at WVU with the same pairing -- @sinsleyh.bsky.social 's edited S&S and her essay for our book

It's that good and that clear
johannawinant.bsky.social
and most of all, I hope it'll be useful to many of you in the greater community of teaching literary studies

it's a book about what we do together
johannawinant.bsky.social
so it's making me very happy to give away the copies from the big box @princetonupress.bsky.social sent, and to plan a workshop on teaching close reading for @moderniststudies.bsky.social, and also to see contributors like @sinsleyh.bsky.social post their essays

I’m shilling CLOSE READING FOR THE TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY hard because I’m so proud of it —specifically because it, like every close reading, is the product of a community and an offering to a community.
@dan-sinnamon.bsky.social
and I collaborated with each other and also 22 brilliant contributors.

Stephanie's essay on D. A. Miller on Jane Austen is, alone, worth the price of admission! It's how I'm closing out my grad seminar on close reading this semester, paired with her Norton Library edited edition of Sense and Sensibility.

All to say: buy the book! It's shipping!

I've been making some good recommendations to my mom, which I will share here:
1. magnesium oil foot spray for insomnia
2. microscopic parasitic wasps to eat clothing moth eggs (this has led to a few spiders biting her because now the moths are gone and they're hungry?)
3. the inflatable frog video
