Rubin features in this NOIRLab #ImageOfTheWeek, along with our neighbors at Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory in the background. It's no surprise that world-class conditions attract lots of telescopes! 🔭🧪

Rubin Observatory sits on its rocky summit site amid a yellow and orange sunset with purply gray clouds above. Rubin is a boot-shaped building with long white service building pointing directly toward us and angular silver dome sticking up. The Chilean mountains recede into the distance, becoming more opaque and obscured by the hazy air as distance increases. The tiny domes of the neighboring Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory appear on the nearest peak behind and to the right of Rubin.

Hubble witnessed a dwarf galaxy crashing through the Milky Way galaxy’s gaseous halo and living to tell the tale … though a bit worse for wear! bit.ly/3YCVcUE 🔭 🧪

Voici une étoile massive en fin de vie, WR 136, dont les vents sont extrêmes: 1900km/s, soit près de 7 millions de km/h! Cela a pour conséquence d’entraîner tout la matière autour et de former une bulle géante, qui fait ici 25 années-lumière de diamètre!
