Why do you feel it is necessary to have a non-mathematical model to ‘explain’ quantum theory? There are plenty of mathematical principles that cannot be explained in other languages. It should not be surprising that we do not have language for a world that we can not experience.
The truth is that we've been lucky. The entire Standard Model comes from starting with a classical theory and "quantizing" it. There's no reason such an ad hoc procedure should work in general. And lo and behold, as soon as gravity gets involved it apparently doesn't! At least not to date. (10/n)
