Longest ride of the year, 147 km (91 mile) circular route out to Skegness and back. Hellishly long way to go for a Starbucks.

London to Brighton. Hardest 54 miles I've ever done. Half way through I started thinking I had Covid (I don't). Ditchling Beacon is a monster. Beer never tasted so good on Brighton Beach and no it wasn't a Neck Oil (my chain came off).

A bike ride to the beach for a bacon butty and a black coffee before work. If there's a better way to start the day, I haven't found it yet.

New shoes, new brakes, blob of grease on my headset. 92km, might be my longest ride this year. Still cold and wet. Note my fuelling strategy.

Would probably avoid ordering anything from Halfords until they get their warehouse sorted out. Ordered new bike shoes and brakes pads 13 days ago on a promised 3 day delivery and still not even been picked and packed. Here's what customer services had to say.

Six years ago today. Covered in Factor 50 and enroute from VRSA to Vilamoura with The Portugal Pie Eaters. I miss those guys.

But its Monday the 10th of March. Not cool Halfords.

I prefer this reality

This is depressing. I post regular little videos to TikTok trying to promote cycling and maybe sell the odd book and they get virtually no traffic. I then post this random video and it goes viral and attracts the comments of every conspiracy theorist on the planet. vm.tiktok.com/ZNdJAkd22/

Amazing to see the UK media all singing from the same hymn sheet and taking a co-ordinated stand against the government's stance on AI.

Yesterday, I ate a whole packet of Chocolate Caramel Digestives in one go while sat at my desk chasing deadlines. Today, I'm cycling the long way to work. I think this is what they call work/life balance.

Enjoying the pace of Hugh Dennis and @realbaddiel.bsky.social cycling adventure across France on @channel4tv.bsky.social. Makes me think I need to slow down and enjoy the view more on my rides across Europe. If only I had more time. Until then... I'll leep pushing on.

Not the most scenic of ride routes, but grateful for the feeling the sun on my face, first blue skies of the year and the opportunity to wear fingerless gloves. How was your day?

And just on the off-chance anyone with any influence is watching - this is what I'm proposing - who wouldn't want to watch a fat, 50-something doing something as ridiculous as this.

Enjoying Hugh Dennis & @realbaddiel.bsky.social's Two Men on a Bike, but thinking it looks a little too easy & could do with more detail about the ride. Wondering when @channel4tv.bsky.social are going to read my book (link in bio) & commisson a show about one of my more miserable mini-adventures?

Checking your bank balance when you've got kids at University in London feels a bit like this.

I know I haven't got it in me to circumnavigate the globe like my cycling hereos Mark Beaumont or Jenny Graham - but surely I can do this? Added the Velo 8 ride to the bucket list. Maybe one day. Encourage me.

How far can you go on a packet of jelly babies?

I can't be the only one here riding a entry level road bike, purchased for £300 in 2019, kept going with spare parts off eBay, and still doing regular 50-100 mile rides across the UK/EU with zero ****s given about FTP, watts, etc. Where is our voice? We should start a podcast.

The first time I cycled Portugal with my friends, they told me they would never do it again. We're now planning our 5th ride across the Algarve together and I for one can't wait. Check out my book about Cycling the Algarve (link in bio).

Wow! I really hope this happens. I'm guessing it will be more of a Live Aid type experience than a traditional full set gig - but I fully expect to be crying into my coffee after it sells out in seconds on Feb 14th.

The once famous wobbly bridge enroute to Tavira on one of my Portuguese adventures.

Older, wiser and a few of them on eBikes. Looks like the Portugal Pie Eaters might be getting back on the road again in October.

Back in the 1980's we didn't have smartphones. We made our own entertainment. A couple of old mattresses and an empty building. What could possibly go wrong?
