#WednesayWIPs posting the above about the delivery Chirico poem seems to have opened the sluice, if not the floodgates, to a wee ekphrastic excursion...so there you go...work in progress...🥰

#PoemsAbout #ImperfectMe kicks off Friday. Think fractured reflections, messy middles, scars that still speak. Draft, hold, then post from Friday. Use Alt Text. Tag properly or we won’t find it. For inbox prompts every Saturday: shorturl.at/0Xm7A
An ornate antique mirror with a heavily tarnished and speckled surface, reflecting a faint, distorted background. The frame is baroque-style, featuring elaborate gold and black detailing with a sculpted lion's face at the top. In the top left is The Broken Spine logo shaped like a fountain pen nib. The website "@thebrokenspine.co.uk" is written in white at the top right. At the bottom right, bold white text reads: "Read Repost Reply #POEMSABOUT #IMPERFECTME".

That rollercoaster ride when you dig out a poem you thought might work for a call for contributions, find that it won't do at all, rewrite the thing in a flurry of seeing suddenly where it should have gone all along - then worry you've made it worse....anyone? 🤔🥰

Thank you so much, Rachel! Cool! I haven't slept so close as you did, from what you say, but I was in one of the medium rise tower blocks at Loughborough Junction for a while, and have walked from the Ritzy to the Hermit's Cave and back again on many a moonless night...🥰

A week and a half to go! We have a great audience signed up but there are still places available...come join the conversation and help us join new ones...👇👇🙏🥰

Hey Ronnie I must apologise - I responded to the prompt before I made my way down the feed and saw that you also had conjured a street musician! I love it ❤️

@emteepoetry.bsky.social that is wonderful feedback, so kind of you! I am very happy this poem landed so well. I admit sometimes I have to look up some of the words I use even after I've used them, for my memory is no longer as I remember it...brevity & clarity - a winning but elusive combination!🙏🥰

#promptcombo #characters
Thank you for this lovely prompt. This is one of an occasional series of poems (revised; first posted for #PoemsAbout), touching on legends of figure of Diogenes - a character for our times... South London is also a character in my writing, I think...😊🙏
Cadenza

Marooned along Coldharbour Lane,
the shipwrecked street philosopher

sorties doggedly from the colonnade
that shelters his paperscrap Academy.

He raises his saxophone voice
to the dome of the Camberwell night -

summoning the perfervid blue
cadenzas of his storytelling

from the deep storm cellars
of his vagabond soul.

A #LiftToTheSky for this wonder-filled & venerable anthology. Choice moments so far: "...the other hand fingered the pistol.  My asshole / dropped out / and crawled all the way back to El Paso" (Paul Blackburn); "Everything is water / if you look long enough" (Robert Creeley) ❤️
