The Tim Burton Wonka movie was just terrible, start to finish. A soulless recreation of the classic original made without an ounce of joy or care. I remember thinking during the opening credits when it’s all gross looking CGI chocolate being made in some grey dark factory….this is going to be bad.

After the war, power becomes even more centralized and he becomes more paranoid and he starts to drink too much and lose his mind. As a general rule, no one should be in power for 30 years. But Stalin’s rule was very different in the 20’s than it was in the 30’s than it was in the late 40’s and 50’s

And was Stalin a dictator? Well, certainly not before the late 30’s. He enjoyed a great deal of centralized authority during the preparation for and conduct of their defensive war against Fascism and Capitalism. Which is, pretty common for any nation in such dire circumstances.

Like I said, for the third time now, Kotkin is a western reactionary mainstream historian. His works on the USSR and Stalin are dripping with his editorializing and him insisting upon his belief in claims that he has difficulty finding actual evidence for.

Yes, Kotkin is still a western reactionary mainstream historian, that is the point. Even someone who still believes and parrots CIA and Nazi narratives about the USSR, has been forced by the weight of evidence to admit at times that some common claims are in fact unsupported.
