It's funny because I genuinely think budding researchers would appreciate a conscious departmental effort to encourage clarity through simple suggestions (shorter sentences, basic subject-verb connection, cutting out passive voice, etc.)

Sometimes think this is connected to the bad grad school habit of adopting "academic writing" as a *style* rather than a means to communicate complex thoughts. I was certainly subject to that - tried to de-learn it when developing the dissertation.

To me the notable thing is that public opinion is shifting despite all the terrible media coverage covering for Trump. That shift speaks to the fact that people aren’t complete rubes and basically know what’s up. Democracy works and it’s weird how few of its supposed defenders have faith in it.
