Driest summer for NYC in more than two decades ! Who's team sun ? This was the driest summer for NYC since 1999. 30th driest(out of 156) overall. Summer in the climate world is June, July and August. Not to worry, reservoirs are near average. Over 80% of our weekend days were dry

Coolest summer in over a decade ! Best summer ever ? This summer was the coolest since 2012. Mild change from last summer which was the 7th hottest in 156 years for NYC. In the climate world, summer is June, July and August and not the solstice/equinox.

Happy first day of meteorological fall ! In the weather world, we use the and not the solstice/equinoxes for the seasons. This makes record keeping more consistent, as the solstice/equinoxes date shifts each year. Also, aligns temps better with the season

Monday vibes: It’s the last week of August. NYC will lose over 12 minutes of daylight in the next 5 days and on Satuday, we see sunset at 7:30. We started August with sunset at 8:11.

Back from a week walking in the woods: Backpacked in Vermont on the Appalachian Trail. Saw moose poop, swam in a mountain lake, climbed Stratton mountain and rode the gondola to the pub. Had a mouse chew into my tent at 2am and had to evict it. Weather was kind.

Monday night’s one hour rainfall in NYC ranked 2nd…Only behind Ida. That this happened without a tropical system is significant and shows our new reality. The top 3 wettest one hour rainfalls for NYC in the past 156 years have all happened in the past four years.
