I'm trying *real* HARD to be the Shepherd
for me:

France by a mile
Germany
Russia
Sweden
Italy/Denmark/China/Japan pretty much tied....

even without Feuillade's multiple serials, just watching Gance's LA ROUE (seven hours! are you *fucking* kidding me?) should give France a pretty solid lead

I just found a copy online; gonna watch it in stages next month

couple decades ago, dropping 8yo daughter off at elementary school

me: park car, give hug, "have a nice day, sweetie"

her: "um, I want to wait until this song is over"

it was 'Paranoid' by Black Sabbath

and *that* was the moment I knew I was a good dad

i actually had you pegged for a more retro vibe

you DO have "Jimi Plays Berkeley" coming on reel-to-reel for your next mail call, right?

"And this must be, uh... Brat."

"Bart."

"Don't correct the man, Brat!"

it's one of two things (or both)

1) they are *financially* very invested in the success of AI; I get that one

2) they are *emotionally* very invested in the success of AI; I get people getting overly invested in things--I've done it myself in the past--but why AI? that bit still perplexes me

if the CEO is gonna act like one of those cringe-wannabe-cool parents, then she should buy us all alcohol, for which I will even put up with her admonishment to "be cool and don't tell anyone"

fair enough; I'm actually not one for recc'ing store-bought cookies (or store-bought anything, really), but these are an exception

gonna have to try making a jelly slice (thanks for pointing that one out!)

just buy some Tim Tams and call it a day....

first time I tried Tim Tams resulted in "OH, MY GOD! WHY AM I *JUST NOW* FINDING OUT ABOUT THESE?"

(they're also good to cut up for homemade ice cream)

I have dwelt in more than one residence with that exact same linoleum

now that is a *deep* cut; well played, sir!

REPTILICUS not exactly common knowledge in the US

watched an early Griffith today--AT THE ALTAR (1909), 6 yrs pre-BOAN

DWG wasn't *only* prejudiced against Blacks; au contraire! in this short film, he stereotypes Italians, too

pasta! swarthiness! ridiculous mustaches! hasty weddings! romantic spurning leading to attempted murder-suicide!

meh... I've seen worse

(I'd make a gif, but dinner....)

been seeing a real ramp-up in this approach/argument from the tech oligarchs and their band of Wormtongues; guessing it's all they've got left at this point

at least when the AI bubble bursts, they can go back to selling monorails

ghost: thinks briefly about posting pics of all the Raiders QB draft picks from the past three decades

gets out the bottle of Jameson instead....

reminded of EASY A, where HS English teacher Thomas Haden Church passed judgment on his students' social media posts

that s/b interesting b/c I've never seen an Australian silent

although I've got POSSUM PADDOCK bookmarked, so that one just went to the top of the watch list

somewhat disappointed that 1920 version of MAN FROM SNOWY RIVER seems to be lost....
January 17, 2026 at 1:14 AM
saw where that was going almost immediately

she ain't wrong, though....
