Thanks to Hare's Paw Literary Journal for publishing my new poem, "Old Map Blues." A bit of nostalgia for the late 1980s and early 1990s when maps, nations, and borders seemed to be changing for the better. www.harespawlitjournal.com/issue-24

One of the last things my grandfather John Dos Passos wrote was an ode to the Apollo Program. It’s so relevant, reminding us what we can do when we overcome tribalism and combine our strengths. www.johndospassoscoggin.com/uncategorize...

"Iron Man," "War Pigs," "Paranoid" and more created heavy metal. A slow, heavy, dark style that formed in working-class England, in the bombed out ruins of World War II. It was moving to see Ozzy say his grand farewell just a couple weeks ago in Birmingham at the Back to the Beginning concert.

Late to the party but I finished all of Andor. I'm in awe of the story and script, which render a far more realistic, plausible, and terrifying Star Wars. A pitiless, psychopathic Empire against a faction-ridden, outgunned Rebellion. No Jedi saviors. Tony Gilroy is a genius!

Rolling Stone reports today that Haiti's Hotel Oloffson has burned down. My grandfather John Dos Passos stayed there in 1948 with Dawn Powell and the Given family, at a low point in his life when he was seeking peace. He painted it beautifully, too (see image).

Just before Climate.gov closed, I co-authored a new essay on the importance of building heat safety protocols for fans at outdoor venues like concerts and games. The Climate.gov team did a fantastic job with editing and visuals, and my co-authors worked tirelessly. www.climate.gov/news-feature...

Final updates have been posted to the Climate.gov website, as well as a farewell message to its social media channels. Thus ends an era of excellence. Without the superb team that once led Climate.gov, it will be harder to understand our complicated, sometimes dangerous planet.

My new article on NOAA research and precipitation forecasting is live, thanks to the superb production team at Climate.gov. Let's never forget the dedicated scientists and staff at NOAA who protect American lives, property, and infrastructure.

"A major US government website supporting public education on climate science looks likely to be shuttered after almost all of its staff were fired, the Guardian has learned. Climate.gov, the gateway website for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration"

Words matter. Writers matter. Real, non-AI writers matter. Mark Twain said, “The difference between the almost right word and the right word is really a large matter–’tis the difference between the lightning bug and the lightning.”

Thanks to Cathexis Northwest Press for accepting my new poem, "Starling Murmuration Outside the U.S. Capitol" for their September/October issue. The murmurations are astonishing natural phenomena and heavy inspiration for poets! For this poem, I mixed nature's wonder with political satire.
