FWIW, when I was a young writer 30 years ago, the NFL comparison was the standard one. Every writer used it. Just under 2k jobs, a little lower, a little higher, all the way to even the cable boom. It's why you could never recommend the career to someone you actually liked or cared for.

It was a terrible miscalculation on their part, there was never a chance we were going to fold, but they had bad information so they were chasing what would’ve been a knife to the heart of unionized labor in Hollywood. They took a giant risk and they lost.

This was so hard to understand during the WGA strike—why were the companies throwing away billions for the millions they might save on our deal? Because they believed there was a real chance, about ten percent, that they could split the union and end it. And that gamble was worth it.

They believe Mamdani and the rise of a popularism that is not controlled by capital is an existential threat, just like the full unionization of a workforce.

I’ll reserve my opinion on the film, but it does highlight that no matter who is in charge, it is all bad. It is a horror movie.
