WSJ reports that Trump's Trade Czar will be Robert Lighthizer. In his book, "No Trade is Free", he gaslights that "Smoot-Hawley did not represent a dramatic change in US trade policy" History lesson: tariff rates rose from 40% to 59% and contributed to the evaporation of 61% of US's export trade.

Kiwi importers and exporters are in for a rude shock. While a recent piece in the Conversation claims that Trump’s tariffs are nothing new, the Economist magazine (31Oct23) predicts the costs of Trump's new fortress protectionist policy will be grave and enduring. Buckle up. This could get bouncy.
