I didn't realize until I read that opening that I have a strong aversion to being acknowledged if I'm reading something. It doesn't sit right with me to mix my suspension of disbelief and my physical self at the same time. I'm there to escape to a new realm, not sit in my room and read.

I had a book lose me in the first two words. It started with "Dear Reader" and I immediately knew the book wasn't for me. I had never had a book lose me before. It was my first DNF. I tried to read the first paragraph but all I could remember were the first two words.
