Had the opportunity to visit one of our favorite food tour places, Rooney’s in Franklin Grove, IL. THE BEST pretzel sticks along with excellent onion rings, burgers and chicken strips.

It’s not the Summer Food Tour but a mini Fall Food Tour is never a bad idea. First stop earlier this week, Vito and Nick’s on Pulaski in Chicago. Dating back over 100 years, it is considered some of the best Chicago “pub style” pizza. It is not my favorite, but it was good.

It’s not the Summer Food Tour but a mini Fall Food Tour is never a bad idea. First stop earlier this week, Vito and Nick’s on Pulaski in Chicago. Dating back over 100 years, it is considered some of the best Chicago “pub style” pizza. It is not my favorite, but it was good.
After a great summer, and a lot of great food, back to the land of hurricanes and humidity. Trying to tell myself “Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened.”

As the Summer Food Tour winds down, we made a return trip to where we started in June. You can never go wrong at Portillo's. Not pictured, free chocolate cake for August birthdays and free shakes for “perks” members.

Third and final time (for me) visiting Rooney’s in Franklin Grove, IL on the Summer Food Tour. In our three trips, collectively, we had 12 dinners and numerous appetizers and not one thing was bad. Additionally as a group, we won four games of bingo and had a blast every time.

Surprise impromptu repeat trip on the Summer Food Tour to Prime Quarter in Princeton, IL with friends. Steaks for everyone except me, I go for the all you can eat salad and baked potato bar. We don’t go just for the food, we have fun grilling the steaks too.

The Summer Food Tour stopped at Amboy Food Truck Monday. After scoping out the options we settled on an old reliable: Tacos Guzman. Burritos for Michelle, Jessica and Joseph and tacos for me. We also got a mix of flavored lemonades.

Sometimes on the Summer Food Tour we don’t end up where we set out at first. We ended up at Longbranch Saloon in Amboy, IL. Onion rings and cheese curds appetizers were good, burgers were solid and boneless chicken wings (aka chicken nuggets) were good.

We went to one of our old reliables on the Summer Food Tour, Cindy’s on 34. Unfortunately I think we’ve outgrown them. The food was ok but as we were thinking about it, there are definitely restaurants on our list that we’d rather go to now before Cindy’s.

How lucky are we that we have friends that own a Giordano's Pizza and they are willing to bring pizzas to us!?!? You definitely get a spot on the Summer Food Tour if you a. have excellent pizza and b. bring it to us, including deep dish, thin crust, and specialty pizza for dietary needs.

Dinner at Palmyra Pub and Eatery in Dixon, IL is always one of my favorite stops on the Summer Food Tour. Their all you can eat Chicken George is excellent, especially when I can get a hamburger and then eat everyone’s chicken.

New stop on the Summer Food Tour, The Factory Pub N Grub in Sterling, IL. Not great but not awful, probably not a permanent stop on the tour. Cheese curds, chef salad, chicken strips w/fried pickles and shrimp w/onion rings.

The Summer Food Tour continues at Uncle B’s Bar and Grill, highly recommend. We got onion rings, Chicken Strips, Philly Cheesesteak and Chicken Quesadilla with a mix of crinkle cut fries and thin fries. Everything we ordered was excellent! Looking forward to making it back soon!

Summer Food Tour, Father’s Day and Anniversary at one of our favorites: Prime Quarter Steak House in Princeton, IL. It’s not cheap but the value is extremely high. We never leave disappointed.
