Executive Director at the Alliance for Middle East Peace (ALLMEP), the largest network of Israeli and Palestinian peacebuilders
Radiohead in London on Monday, Wolf Alice in Paris on Tuesday.
Both amazing (tho very different!) shows. And as an overworked father of two small kids: prob my gig-quota for six months, filled in 24hrs

Proud to join- and grateful to- the 80+ Palestinian & Israeli ALLMEP members who came out to meet today to strategise about the way ahead. And how civil society can buttress this fragile (esp in recent hours) ceasefire, & lay groundwork for it becoming something much more transformative and lasting

Good to join @f24debate.france24.com to discuss ALLMEP & @parispeaceforum.bsky.social civil society roundtable w/ Macron at #UNGA80 as Pal state recognised. With:
✅ new ALLMEP poll showing 🇮🇱 🇵🇸 🇺🇸 support for regional TSS deal
✅ vital role civil society must play on the ground in making it a reality

Attacking a synagogue where people are mourning Israeli and Palestinian victims of this war is a new low.

These outrageous attacks on civil society in general— and peacebuilders in particular— must be condemned and countered by all.

Civil society is here to stay…

Happening now: ALLMEP Co-hosted screenings of Joint Memorial. In Berlin, London, Paris, Marseille. Israelis and Palestinians who’ve paid the heaviest price, in a war that MUST be ended, calling for a just and lasting peace and equality for all.

Happy 40th (😱) birthday to this middle-aged masterpiece. Still sounds like it’s from the future. And still says important stuff about our present

“In 2018, 55% of Israeli Jews thought the country was in a good situation. Today just 11% do.”

Trust in govt also at an all time low. No wonder, when 73% of Israelis said they wanted to implement second stage of the Gaza ceasefire/hostage deal. But govt preferred return to war…

Doron Steinbrecher, held hostage by Hamas for 471 days, speaking at tonight’s rally:

"I'm angry at those who think it's okay to resume fighting. How are you not listening to us? I have the fear that [hostages] will be forgotten. That we'll learn to live alongside war, that it'll become normal."

“the world map will not change if all the people of Gaza vanish. No one will feel for you, and no one will ask about you. You are left alone to face your inevitable fate.”

There can be justification for this. Nor for return to this hellish war, that 7 in 10 Israelis oppose, yet proceeds regardless

This week, the UK reaffirmed its commitment to the Int Fund for I-P Peace, with broad support across Parliament.
Civil society is where you find strongest opposition to annexation & most determined support for peace. Radically scaling this work is urgent priority

Ramadan kareem to all breaking their first fast of month. But to none more than the people of Gaza. Where aid is once again shamefully being used as “leverage.” And many, many people are marking their second Ramadan displaced and hungry, in a war that should have ended long ago

And we had chance to meet with former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern & Pat Hynes from Glencree Centre. To hear about the level of engagement, time & determination needed by heads of government to reach a deal. And to regret just how little of that we have see in I/P toward *real* conflict resolution…

And we also saw the strange way that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict reverberated in NI today. With murals depicting solidarity and kinship with one side over the other, mapping on to Unionist/Nationalist identity in ways that are often surreal. Esp for Israelis/Palestinians

Another parallel was game-changing work of Women’s Coalition. We heard from Avila Kilmurray, Monica McWilliams & Debbie Waters about how they demanded & secured seat at table, helped to improve & secure GFA. Again, the work, potential and echo of so many women-led ALLMEP members resonated deeply

We learned about civil society shaping conditions that made diplomacy viable. We heard from activists, womens’ groups, ex-combatants, MLAs & more. As Paul Nolan from YES Campaign explained: civil society opened up ground, creating/de-risking ideas & popular consent. We see same potential in I/P

Thank you @emilythornberry.bsky.social & Foreign Affairs Committee for hosting myself & ALLMEP members PCFF, @standing-together.bsky.social & Abraham Initiatives today. Not aware of another legislature giving this vital work same level of discussion. Watch here: parliamentlive.tv/event/index/...

For the crowd who’ve spent 24hrs parsing/debating the angle that a man who supports the AfD and believes in the Great Replacement Theory pitched his arm.

Wild that there are ppl (minority, thankfully) advocating for justice & equality for Palestinians— righteous & urgent things— who think solidarity with the men in ski masks with AKs (who kill/torture Palestinians…) rather than the terrified woman they’re manhandling is the progressive stance

Analysis of Israeli polls by Tamrur, from 2018-2024. 50% support “separation” via negotiated TSS (25%, down from 47% in 2018) or unilaterally (25%). 50% prefer annexation or status quo (creeping annexation).
The 2.5x inc in support for *this* grim status quo, post Oct 7, is what shocks me tbh 😔

All the worst people forming a circular firing squad is, depressingly, perhaps the quickest, most likely and least destructive path out of this cursed era

Was proud to meet PM Starmer today and intro him to leaders from our network. Grateful for his pledge to support creation of Int Fund for I/P Peace, and committing to hosting “inaugural meeting in London” as part of this effort “to support civil society in the region”
