A Red-breasted Nuthatch (Sitta canadensis) was standing on a Virginia Creeper (Parthenocissus quinquefolia) vine in Norman, Oklahoma, United States on December 19, 2025. These vines are related to grapes, but the fruit are not edible for humans even though the berries are eaten by many other species.

A White-tailed Deer (Odocoileus virginianus) was standing near oak tree trunks and buckbrush (Symphoricarpos orbiculatus) in Norman, Oklahoma, United States on December 14, 2025. The young buck with very small antlers was vocalizing to the deer leaving him behind when he wanted to eat more buckbrush twigs and berries. This is the crosstimbers ecosystem.

A White-tailed Deer (Odocoileus virginianus) was standing on fallen leaves near tree trunks, bushes, and vines in Norman, Oklahoma, United States on December 4, 2025. This is the crosstimbers ecosystem. The bushes with red berries are buckbrush (Symphoricarpos orbiculatus) and are a favorite of deer and other wildlife. The greenbriar vines are eaten by deer and have berries that are eaten by birds in the winter. The hackberry trees have berries that are eaten by birds in the winter.
