*ugh, “he would also likely be fine”
August 12, 2025 at 4:28 AM
It’s also about the place — the US has among the most lenient traffic laws in the world. He wouldn’t also likely be fine in *some* other places, but in England and most of Europe he wouldn’t have a license anymore and would have faced jail time in many countries.

If you explain the details of universal healthcare care or insurance policies to Americans, they are overwhelmingly popular.

As soon as you call it “socialized” or “government” healthcare, 40% of the country’s brains stop functioning entirely.

widespread support.

Starting in the ‘30s conservative opponents of universal healthcare and, most notably, the American Medical Association started portraying “socialized medicine” as a step down the path toward communism. Sadly, it was — and still is — incredibly fucking effective.

I think the moral of the story is that propaganda is incredibly effective. “Socialized Medicine” entered the American lexicon in the early 20th century without negative connotations. Universal Healthcare was proposed by fucking Teddy Roosevelt. FDR and Truman later championed it and it had

I think it’s very possible he was angry at the NFL, not as a stand-in for football, but because the NFL quite deliberately opposed and attempted to derail research into CTE and the potential link to repetitive hits from football.

OTL: Report lambasts NFL for vast overreach
Congressional investigators have concluded that top NFL health officials waged an improper, behind-the-scenes campaign to influence a U.S. government research study on football and brain disease.

It’s fine if you want that to be consistently called a yellow, I just don’t think that it’s at all backed up by how the rule has been implemented in any major league or tournament. Whatsoever.

“tapping knees” while you’re sprinting past a defender in the box? Always a foul and always painful.
July 30, 2025 at 1:54 AM
Sure, there’s not a ton of contact. No arguments there. But their knees knock together — it’s a foul. A satisfying one in the last minute of a match? No. But that’s the defender’s fault.

A player is never getting a yellow
there. It was going to be a pen if not for the handball.

No, you didn’t use that word in particular; however, you framed it as if:

1. It’s a very, very serious issue that needs to be solved immediately, and
2. That we need to compare any time, performance, etc by trans women to men.

You go around comparing all trans men’s sports times to women too?

Most neutrals looking at this transfer are thinking the same thing 🤷🏻‍♂️. No offense meant to your home town, Gareth.

But for a Swiss guy, living in NRW a short hop from Cologne seems… preferable to a former industrial city in the NE of England. Coast is nice. City Centre is… revitalizing? 😬
July 29, 2025 at 10:56 AM
Was it really? She exaggerates the contact (as would every other player on earth in that situation) but there IS contact.

Argentina defender just dangles her leg out, doesn’t get near the ball, tries to draw it back, but still clips her knee.

Horrific defending.

That was my exact reaction the first time I tried one in high school — “this shit tastes how flowers smell”.

But then I really liked how the canned perfume started to taste when I was trying to write a paper at 2am or how “well” flower smell combined with Burnett’s Vodka.

Voting for or enabling Trump was still CLEARLY the worst option when it comes to the ongoing Genocide of the Palestinian people.
July 27, 2025 at 11:17 AM
kidnapped and having their legal status revoked for writing OpEds about Gaza if Trump lost? Do you think pro-Palestine protestors would be labeled terrorists and be forced out of universities for peaceful demonstrations?

Fuck Biden. Fuck Dems. Fuck all the genocidal maniacs.
July 27, 2025 at 11:17 AM
And to be clear, I’m not advocating for voting being the only means of political action people rely on.

If you’re presented with shit options you need to find other ways to affect change, and the people of Gaza deserve all of our attention and effort.

But do you think people would be getting

superior, specifically related to Gaza, when it has directly resulted in worse outcomes for the children being starved to death as a means of mass execution.

If there was an anti-genocide option we would have embraced it. There was not. The lesser of two evils was the better choice.
