Growing up my best friend's parents were both seeing multiple partners for years. Yet neither of them ever said anything or acknowledged it or even asked the other about it. It was just understood: Don't ask don't tell. They got their picket fence life without having to give up their secret flings.

This is soo accurate because people don't talk. There's risk in opening up a conversation around something so charged. What if he changes his mind? What if he's testing me? What if I catch feelings? It's much easier to quietly test the waters while maintaining plausible deniability.
