I start to cringe when a national news reporter is about to say the word “Valdosta.” They get it right about 30% of the time.

I was pleased to discover that after letting my Prime membership expire in July, I really haven't missed it at all.

With no internet to distract me on campus, I'm going to break out my fountain pen and write some overdue thank you notes.

I have become a big fan of the Criterion 24/7 feature. It's like dropping out of warp into a movie without any idea of what you're getting into. I've wandered into several things I wouldn't have known about otherwise. Like this, which was filmed a couple of counties south of me:

I am interested in watching the removal via helicopter, but Chinooks are a daily sight around here (I live a couple of miles from an Army airfield). I say, bring in this character:

For those interested in the saga of the wayward channel marker that washed up on Tybee Island, info via Tybee Island Ocean Rescue:
• It drifted here from Port Royal, S.C.
• It weighs around 13,900 pounds.
• The U.S. Coast Guard is coordinating removal, likely later this week, by Chinook helicopter.

An unusual visitor arrived on Tybee Island this morning. A channel marker has washed up on the beach.

College radio stations are seeing a surge in student interest.

Stations that once struggled to fill airtime are now overflowing with student DJs.

I spoke to 7 college radio stations across the U.S. to understand what is driving the revival:

It's raining today in Savannah, but I'm determined to make at least a few more visits to Tybee Island before the water gets too cold. Here are some images made with cheap plastic cameras and expired film. 🎞️

One of the most exciting things that happened when we lived there: ROBOCOP 3 (1993) was filmed on our street. This is Peters Street looking north toward downtown.

When we lived there, most of the buildings were vacant and in a state of decay. Our closet neighbor (besides the people in the other half of the building with whom we shared the kitchen and bathroom) was Bobby, who lived in an abandoned van in the vacant lot next door.

Here it is a little earlier. It's behind the car on the right side of the photo.

I just checked, and I am happy to report that the place we lived is now called The Glam Shop.

My first year in Atlanta was a lean one. Three of us lived in an unheated/uncooled former industrial space in Castleberry Hill that I'm pretty sure did not have a residential certificate of occupancy. This place kept us fed.

I was surprised how much I didn't miss those services after I canceled. I'm doing just fine with Criterion Channel and Tubi.

Helped with the radio station table at a street fair last night. Saw some old friends and made some new ones. Community is important in times like these.

Today I:

✅ Graded 45 American Government midterm exams
✅ Played records on the radio
✅ Rode my bike a little over 10 miles

Not bad for a Thursday in times like these.
