I have a lot of books about ghosts and hauntings on my shelves. So, as we countdown to Halloween 2025, I'm going to pick a book and a ghost/haunting from that book and post a little bluesky sized summary of that on here.

8) DRUMMER BOY
In the 12th century a young drummer boy was murdered at Dover Castle. Peter was killed, robbed, and beheaded, but his head was never found. His headless ghost is said to march around the castle grounds, beating still beating his drum.

My phone periodically tells me that my Zettle POS has stopped working. No one reads "POS" and thinks "Point Of Sale", do they?

A cool charity in Hoxton that teaches & gives disadvantaged kids skills in filmmaking has asked me a question:

Any female animators want to take part in a mentorship programme they run?

They've been doing good work for 25+ years.

Was it racist? Was it some occult revelation? Was it a confession? She gone now. I'll never know.

A woman on the opposite platform to me at the train station keeps saying very exciting sounding things loudly to her friend, then dropping her voice so I can't hear the pay off of any of them. "About 20 cats have gone missing. 20! People say it's foxes, but I know that it's *whisper*".

7) CURTAIN FACE
Young Mary Tubey died in Sept 1878. A shimmering ghostly facsimile of her face appeared on the curtains of her stepbrother's house nearby. Crowds decended on the house, people eager to see the wonderous spectacle. Some were disappointed, while others were amazed.

5) HORSE EELS
In 1960 a trio of Catholic priests from Dublin were fishing in Lough Ree lake. There they saw a monster. 6 feet long with flat head "like a python's". The name Horse Eel dates from the early 20th century when farmers claimed to often see similar beasts come ashore to graze

Northamptonshire, 1907. Two girls out for a walk enter the church. Inside, they are terrified to see the place full of kneeling people who seemed "to be made of a substance similar to bubbles". No explanation has ever been offered, and the apparition never reoccurred
