If the large poster campaigns at large in the waiting rooms are doing anything, it is precisely geared at making people feel cosmetically inferior. They even use coercive language … they’re not “straightening teeth” they’re “improving your smile” … suggesting your smile is ugly and unacceptable.

By that, I mean steering people towards an unreasonable goal of cosmetic perfection and normalising the idea of paying for that.

Nobody "needs" this ... people who want absolutely perfect teeth "want" this ... mercenary private dentists "want" us to feel insecure enough to feel that we "need" this.

And once you're an adult ... the replacement retainers would cost a lot more than £100 plus private dentistry costs.
Fuck that ... and I told my children as much ... life is for living ... not making expensive and inconvenient by people who should know better trying to sell you a "perfect smile"

When I asked when the retainer could stop being worn ... I was told never ... you have to wear them at night for life.
Pardon me?? They're uncomfortable, and only trying to keep the teeth absolutely perfectly straight. Plus you'd have to visit an orthodontist every time they break.

It starts after they take the braces off ... teeth now moved where they need to be ... now you have to get a retainer to wear at night ... if it's kids and if the work is not cosmetic, you'll get one set free.
They snap with normal usage. When getting a £100+ replacement told this is normal.
